I’ve just returned from my very first European river cruise. And sailed along the stunning Danube River. And I’m excited to share my experience with you!
While I’ve cruised many times before (Caribbean, Mexican Riviera, Alaska, Mediterranean, even Antarctica!), 2025 was the year I decided to try river cruising. And what an incredible decision it turned out to be!

Nicknamed “Beauty on the Danube,” Bratislava is a charming capital with a rich history, once home to 11 Hungarian kings.
Vienna, Austria
A city of music, architecture, and imperial grandeur. Highlights included the Opera House, St. Stephen’s Cathedral, and a magical evening at a classical concert.
Dürnstein, Austria
Located in the heart of the Wachau Valley, Dürnstein offered postcard-worthy scenery and historic charm.
Linz, Austria – Salzburg Excursion
From Linz, I joined a tour to Salzburg—Mozart’s birthplace and a major trip highlight with its baroque beauty and musical heritage.
Passau, Germany
Known as the “City of Three Rivers,” Passau boasts cobblestone streets, baroque buildings, and the awe-inspiring St. Stephan’s Cathedral, home to one of the world’s largest pipe organs.
After seven magical nights cruising down the Danube, we disembarked in Vilshofen, Germany, and continued to Prague, Czechia, for a 3-night post-cruise extension.
Post-Cruise in Prague
My trip ended in Prague, another city I have never traveled to before. AMA Waterways offers a 3-night post-cruise package to this incredible city, which includes:
